London Fashion Week-Fall 2011

Following NYC's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, London designers showed off their flair at London's Fashion Week. It is fascinating to compare the different styles between the different cities.  London does edgy EXTREMELY well. Also, color is inherently natural in London collections. It stems from the city's Bollywood roots. Here are the go's and no's from this past week:

Go: Todd Lynn

Mr. Lynn's use of earth tones is perfect for fall.  Also, the monochromatic looks are slenderizing and sleek, which work great for all shapes and sizes.  Lastly, Todd Lynn mixes edgy, grunge pieces like the look on the right with more feminine softer pieces, like on the left, for a diversity that appeals to everyone. Love.It.

Go: Vivienne Westwood Red Label

Ms. Westwood's Red Label is youthful with a playful avant-garde puppet-esque theme mixed with wearable fashion.  From a tailored, girly suit to a cinched and ruffled military-style dress, Vivienne Westwood knows how to mix colors and patterns to create remarkable art. The red queen's crown is just an added bonus.

There are no words…only cartoons characters.

No: Ashish

This collection looks like the English flag threw up on tweed and then ripped itself up to "stick it to the man". We understand you are an English designer; you don’t have to use the flag and outlandishly bright plaid to portray your nationality.

Rocking the Ruffles

A classy Saturday night out needs a unique, bar-stopping piece.  I love my ruffled mini paired with black tights and a black blazer.  The dress is super feminine and the blazer is a tad masculine. These two pieces compliment each other while creating an androgynous, runway look. Pair it with a great pair of black pumps and you will be rocking downtown soon enough.

Casual Night Out

So we all have those nights where we want to look cute, but also want to feel comfortable. I'm having a great friend visit this weekend so we had a casual night out last night. I wore a Banana Republic silk top paired with a Banana tank. The "jeggings" are from Lane Bryant, watch Michael Kors and the shoes (which I LOVE) are Steve Madden! Pair it with a slight smokey eye and you have a perfect night out look~

Gelish Manicure Review

Today I had my first Gelish Manicure, I love a manicure as much as the next girl but HATE the chipping that always occurs. The deal with Gelish is that it apparently stays on for weeks before chipping begins.

I went to the adorable Blush Waxing boutique on 17th and Madison in Denver and the lovely Trish who owns the place did a fantastic job. Check her out here! http://www.blushwaxing.com/

The whole process is a little different than a normal manicure, they apply each coat and then use a UV dryer for about 30 seconds to set the gel.

I'll keep you posted on the hold up of the process, but first impressions have made me a convert!
The color on my nails is called "Stand Out" which looks more brown in the ad they show you, but is really a deep red! Loves it!

Happy Hour on 17th and Wynkoop

Venice Ristorante on 17th and Wynkoop in Denver, CO is the best place for a low-key happy hour with the girls.  Look at this gorgeous wine cellar behind the bar! Classy and casual with delicious $6 imported wines from Italy and $4.50 small plates featuring house-made pasta dishes. My favorite combination is a glass of the Super Tuscan red blend with the Cappellacci de Zucca (butternut squash stuffed ravioli with sage brown butter).

50 Degrees Fahrenheit=Grunge Chic

Warm temps in Denver mean that I HAVE to bust out a dress. I was feeling an industrial, grunge look today; mainly black with silver accents.  The red scarf adds an eye-catching pop of color which is cohesive with the zipper on my lace-up Perrin Steve Maddens. The motorcycle leather Michael Kors comes together with unique accessories like this diamond-crusted owl ring. Got to love sunshine in the middle of February.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week- NY Fall 2011

Twice a year, fashionistas come together and embrace the future of fashion. Yes, we are referring to the fabulousness of Fashion Week. February 10 kicked off the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week's Fall 2011 season in New York City. Since its inception in 1943, Fashion Week attracts people from far and wide to judge the next generation of fashion. Here are our go's and no's from this year's Fall collections.

Go: Carolina Herrera

Always chic and polished, Carolina Herrera's Fall 2011 collection features youthful evening wear and cinched jackets that remind us of 1940's Hollywood. Fur details exaggerate this luxurious glam look. All we can say is, you did it again Ms. Herrera.

Go: Thakoon

Hello color and silhouettes! Thakoon has integrated playful colors with different structures to offer wearable silhouettes.  The best part of this collection is the array of body types that will look great in these pieces. Stunning and versatile, what more could a girl ask for?

No: Proenza Schouler

We enjoy a mixture of patterns and textures just as much as the next woman, but there is a point of no return.  Proenza Schouler found it in its Fall 2011 collection.  Futhermore, if that chunky sweater adds 40 lbs. on a 115 lbs. model, what will it do for a girl with an actual body? We shudder just thinking about it.

No: Custo Barcelona

Custo Barcelona's collection is a confusing mix of the 1970's (not the good parts) and a futuristic idea of fashion. Think of Joni Mitchell as a Jetson...not appealing.

Among the many designers showcased in NYC, Michael Kors and Cynthia Rowley also hit it out of the park. There was so much great fashion last week, it is impossible to blog it all.  For a complete overview of the designers and their looks, visit www.mbfashionweek.com.
